Super Kid

Since week 8 room 23 has been doing activities for Super Kid. The activities that we do are 100m sprint, card making, creating a hat, baking a cake, home made gift, animation, 50 knowledge questions, 50 times tables, mintie wrapper rip and ice block suck. Super kid is a great way to end the year because it is so fun doing all the activities. The aim is to get the lowest score possible so if you come 1st in something you get 1 point and thats the best you can get. Whoever gets the lowest score and is also the winner they will win a super kid t-shirt with the logo on it. So far it has been really fun so I cant wait to do the next few activities.

Athletics

On Tuesday the 16th of November Pukekohe Intermediate School had their Athletics day. The students had a choice out of the fun athletics or Competitive, the school ended up having 300 people in Competitive and 300 in the fun day. The whole of my class (room 23) competed in the competitive athletics and two of them made it to Zone. Some of us didn't get a placing but it was still a really great day thanks to Mrs Hancock.

Seminars

Since the start of Term 4 the whole of Pukekohe Intermediate School has been set a task to complete a seminar each. The year 7's can do a like or interest and the year 8's do a career, but some of the year 7's are aloud to do a career. I have chosen to do mine on Taekwon-Do, this is an interest Because I do Taekwon-Do as a sport. I have been working really hard on this and to find enough information I talked to my instructor and I also looked in the Taekwon-Do bible. I hope my seminar is finished to a high standard and the students enjoy it.

Term 4

This Term Pukekohe Intermediate is going to to be really busy with all of the things going on. One of the things we are doing is Athletics. We are practicing at sport time and some classes are going over to Pukekohe High School to practice. . We have a choice if we want to do competitive Athletics which is long jump, shot put and those things, or you can do fun activities like hackie sack throwing and fun games.
Because its getting into summer time we are going to need to wear hats and bring water bottles to school. This is a big safety thing so you don't get skin cancer and with your drink bottles you don't get de-hydrated.
Every year Pukekohe Intermediate students have to do a seminar. The year eights do it on a career they want to do when they are older and the year sevens do it on something they enjoy or like. We are researching a lot at the moment so they are to a high standard.
A couple of my goals for this term are: to get a high score for my seminar and to do well in the term 4 tests.
Next week which is week 3 the year sevens are having all their testing and the tests might be a bit challenging. Then in week 5 Room 23 are having our class testing to see what we are capable of.

Touch Typing

Today at school we had a touch typing test on sense lang. I don't think I did very good and I know that I can do better, I had trouble finding one of the letters and then I realised that it was on caps lock. I was a bit disappointed with myself and I know that next time I will try a lot harder and I will be practicing up till then.

Maths Week

Term 3 Week Maths Week is happening and Pukekohe Intermediate is celebrating it. We have awesome activities going on like a poster competition, making games, code crackers and even more. Each day we have a class challenge and an individual challenge, we also have a 10:15 sprint and if you win any of these challenges you win a prize for you or your classroom. Room 23 are using a website that lasts for 1 week it is called Maths Week. There are challenges for each day like Maths Millionaire, Maths Millionaire Family, Math Ex and more. You win money (not real money) for getting the questions correct and on Wednesday and Sunday they have an auction where you can bid for prizes. The website is a great way to improve your maths, so next year when it comes to Maths Week make sure you sign up and give it a go.

House Sports Day

On Friday the 2nd of July Pukekohe Intermediate held a house sports day that the whole school competed in. There were two sports that you could choose from and they were turbo touch and netball. We had this day because it was a fun day to have on the last day of term, a lot of kids really enjoyed this day and would love to have one again.

We split into our house groups which are Sheppard, Hillary, Batten, Rutherford and Ngata, and then we split into teams a, b, c or d and competed against each other. This day was held at the Pukekohe netball courts for netball and the Pukekohe Intermediate field for turbo touch, we had some really good teams competing and everyone had great sportsman ship. I'm sure the teachers were very proud. The winner team for turbo touch was Ngata with and fro netball in 1st place was Hillary, well done to those teams !

Descriptive Writing

The Bedroom

The lime green duvet spread out on the bed matching the walls and the desk, the beautiful smell of fresh air and perfume and the beautiful sounds of the birds chirping right outside. Everything is what I have always dreamed of. The curtains are blowing around everywhere, I feel like a princess.

The Library

Food smudged into the floor, muddy footprints all around me, ants eating at all the rotten food, books thrown everywhere, I can't even sit on the "what used to be" comfortable chair. I search for the sunlight but for some reason I just can't find any, it's like an obstacle course in here. This place isn't peaceful at all its so loud I cant even here myself think. This isn't really my favourite place anymore.

Room 23 Science Fair

Room 23 have been working on our science fairs for the last about 7 weeks, we got to choose out of making a model, doing photo journalism, a scientific investigation or a research board. A lot of us have been working really hard on these and are proud with what their boards came out as. There were a lot of awesome boards that you can tell had a lot of work put into them. The school science fair hasn't announced a winner for any section yet but because room 23 had two first places and one second place at the Franklin science fair I think they could have a chance of winning. There are more good boards in room 23 that may be able to get a prize in the school science fair so we have our fingers crossed that we come back with more than three places!

Mathematic Extension

Georgia and I have been selected to participate in the Mathematics Extension at Pukekohe Intermediate. We go on a website called www.duffyclub.co.nz and we have to do the tutorials, they are quite hard but we do them in groups of three so we get through them quite well. All the math groups we are in are Otago maths, maths extention and entrepeneur Challenge, the mathex and entrepeneur challenge are kind of the same and we do them twice a week and Otago maths is an extra test a few Thursdays. We will be participating in the Franklin mathex competition in week 5 term 3. We have just been given a certificate for participation from the teacher in charge which is Mr Pope and I am really glad I have received this.

They all did very well out of the whole of Franklin and are now moving on to the Counties Manakau competition, this will be quite a hard competition but these girls have fabulous boards so they might do well. We wish them luck and we are hoping they come back with good results.

Current Events

Room 23 at Pukekohe Intermediate are doing the Current Affairs quiz every Friday. We are doing this on NIE online and the URL is "http://www.nieonline.co.nz". We have to read the newspaper or watch the news to help us improve our score, we are doing this so we know what is going on in the world. This will be really helpful for us so we know all the important things that are going on.

Miss Morris

For the last few weeks Room 23 were very lucky to have a student teacher, her name was Miss Morris. She was in her 3rd and last year at Teachers College. She was a great teacher and she is really good. We all loved doing the work with her like the science experiments we did where we tested things out. We also really liked making our own News Paper with an article each about our science fair projects we handed in.

Unfortunately Miss Morris had to leave us, we had a great time when she was in the class with us and we are really gonna miss her. We wish her the best for the future and we hope she can come back to teach us some other time. She was fantastic in the room.

Coca Cola Netball

On Wednesday the 19th May, 150 girls represented Pukekohe Intermediate at the Coca Cola netball tournament. All of the teams did quite well at this tournament with one team coming 3rd (the year 8 A team) and another coming 2nd and they were the Red Starz (year 7). Mr Sweeney (Pukekohe Intermediate Principal) was very happy with what Pukekohe Intermediate had achieved.

My team was All or Nothing,we did pretty good coming 3rd overall for the mixed teams which is year 7 and 8's. We had some tough competition but we only lost two games, we won the other three by a fair amount. We were quite pleased with our results and we had a strong team, I definitely liked the team I was in because we worked really well together. I can't wait till next years tournament when I can either compete in a year eight team or mixed again.

Science Fair

For the last few weeks I have been planning what I am going to do for my science fair project. I have decided to do mine on photography and for photography I am doing water. I will be taking pictures of all sorts of water but mainly rivers and ponds. I will have to put lot of effort into this as it is due sometime close to now and it will be quite hard to achieve. With a lot of effort put into this I should be able to achieve this.

I have now finished my Science Fair and I think I could of done a bit better. I didn't enter the Franklin Science Fair for Photography and I didn't get anywhere in the School competition. Next time I think I will do either a Research board or a Scientific Investigation.

Speech

Why we should protect the Maui dolphins?

Do you want to know why the Maui Dolphins are the most at-risk marine mammal in the world? Well it's because not many people know about them so they are getting killed by propellers on boats, or the net's boats carry around and then the main one that kills lot's of sea creatures and I'm sure at least everyone in New Zealand has done this once before and that is pollute. These are all bad for the Maui dolphins and this is what's killing them, I think we should stop and try to protect them.

Lot's of people love to fish, but what they don't realize is that they re fishing in the wrong area sometimes. Who fishes on the West Coast of the North Island? I know that some people do and the propellers on boats are killing the poor Maui dolphins. The Maui dolphins are so tiny and they can't see very well so how do the people that fish there expect the Maui dolphins to just swim away from the boats, because dolphins don't know that they will get killed, so the fishermen are the ones that should fix this problem. It's quite easy they should just stay away from the area with there boats, there are a lot of other places you can fish, so there is no need to go there.

When fishermen go out to sea on big boats they carry around nets to catch big fish, but they can easily accidentally catch a Maui dolphin and they can't swim fast enough to get out from the net. The Maui dolphins are endangered and how many people know that they are indigenous which is native to NewZealand? So why is this continuing? We should be protecting them not killing them. Yes I know that people are only trying to fish with the nets and only trying to catch fish but you could catch anything with the size of those nets.

People think that polluting does nothing to the Earth, but really if they don’t know that polluting is bad then they really don't know anything. Would you like to die because someone dropped a bit of rubbish? Well you should really stop because those Maui dolphins have done no harm to you, but when you drop one bit of rubbish you have just put a Maui dolphin at risk. How can someone be so careless? It isn't hard to walk a few steps to put something in the bin, think of how many Maui dolphins you will be saving, people could call you a hero and all you did was put a piece of rubbish in the bin. So you should really not pollute and then you could save a life.

You really need to think about this, if all of this stops the Maui dolphins won’t be endangered anymore and then there will be more of them left so you are not doing anyone any harm.If you don’t go near this area and don’t pollute you are a life saver. So do you want to be a hero or a killer?

Me project

This is my Me Project. Room 23 all had to do this and we all worked extremely hard on these. We got given 4 weeks to complete these and all of them looked fantastic. We had to have 3 sections and they were people, places and passions. For people I did my siblings and me, for places I did places where me and my family love going and for passions I did dance and Taekwon-Do.

I spent a lot of time on mine and I think it looks good, it is definitely the best I can do.

Mathletics

This is my mathletics account. My whole class (Room 23) at Pukekohe Intermediate School goes on Mathletics and we work very hard on it. There are alot of different ability levels on mathletics so you can challenge your self if you find something to easy.

There is also live mathletics where you verse people from all over the world and there are 5 different levels level 1, level2, level 3, level 4 and level 5 and they get harder and harder, i like to work on level 3 and 4 because they are the levels suited for my maths level. Mathletics is a great way to practise your maths and i am really glad I am on it.

Book Bag

My book bag was on Dead Dan's Dee.
This is my plot summary...

After Dee's father died in the Great war she lived at the beach with her mother and Aunt. But her Mother and Aunt are very sick so she has to look after them and herself, she doesn't do much more than that because they don't have much money. When her Mum and Aunt get very ill they leave Dee abandoned. They send her too a very caring place well that's what the think, Dee cried every night wishing she still had her Mum with her. Joe had never forgotten about his promise to his army mate Dan Dee's dead father. Joe and Essie take Dee to live with them but when they can't afford high school things go down the drain. She goes to a school now in Mamaku where all the people in her school know something about her father that she doesn't will she ever find out the story.

Zone Cricket Tournament

On Tuesday the 30th of March the year 7 and year 8 cricket tournament was held, it was held at Pukekohe intermediate School. The year 8 team lost a game and won a game which led them into the place of 3rd. They only had the two games but they still tried their hardest and did what they could to get them their result. They had a really hard competition which was good for them so they had to try hard.

The year 7 girls did really well our first game we bet them by about 11 runs and we had 9 wickets when the game ended, we were very proud of our result. following that we had our 2nd game we did a bit better than our first game with a score of 26 from the other team and 40 from our school team. We definitely did a good job thanks to our two batsman that scored the runs and our awesome bowlers who got them out. We had a good result at the end of the day coming first place which we were all very proud of.

Sense Lang-Touch Typing Test

I think I did quite well this time, I did it as touch typing so I did not look at the keyboard once. I am proud of my final result which is the one above and I think it is really good because I tried my hardest so that is the best I can get for that one.

I would like to keep practicing on this so I can beat the score of 55 word per minute. I would definitely like to keep trying hard so that when I am older I will be able to type without looking at the keyboard. I will keep on Practicing in the holidays and make sure I will not cheat so that I can be the best when I am older.

Typing Test

Today in the digital classroom, we had our first attempt at the typing test. It is on a website called Sense Lang, it's a very good way to learn how to type fast. When i had my go, my results were 27 words in a minute, 92 characters, 10 mistakes and my percentage was 89%. I think my results were alright but I know I can do better.

For homework, I need to get a piece of material to put over the keyboard so i learn to touch type. After today I have set a goal and that is to get over 35 words per minute by touch typing, I will do that by practicing at home.
